Elbow Arthritis Surgery
Elbow Arthritis can be so painful that patients opt for total elbow surgery.
An artificial implant made from metal is placed inside the joint so that the elbow can move more freely, and with less pain.
This requires a six-inch incision to be made over the joint of the elbow. The physician then removes the bones in the elbow with a special saw, used in surgery.
The implant is then inserted into the joint and cemented in place. The ligaments are then put back in place, for the best elbow function possible. The surgeon then stitches the wound closed. In some cases, it is necessary to put in a plastic drainage tube to allow fluids to drain from wound site.
