Arthroscopic Elbow Surgery
Arthroscopic surgery may be performed on a patient’s elbow to diagnose and treat conditions inside the joint. Arthroscopic surgery is known as keyhole surgery because it only requires a very small incision, into which the surgeon inserts a tiny instrument with a light on the end of it. This allows the surgeon to see the joint clearly, enabling him or her to diagnose and move forward with the best treatment plan for the patient.
Arthroscopic surgery is also done frequently on shoulders, hips and knees. Since the incision made in this type of elbow surgery is small, the recovery time is minimal and most patients go back to work in just a few days.
There are several different kinds of elbow surgery performed on the elbow. It is up to the physician to determine which surgery is best suited for the patient, so that the best outcome is possible.
