Tennis Elbow Strap
What is a Tennis Elbow Strap?
A tennis elbow strap is an effective treatment for a medical condition known as lateral epicondylitis (or tennis elbow). The main symptoms of tennis elbow are pain on the outer part of the elbow and sometimes joint tenderness. Any movements that involve using the wrist muscles will prove very painful if you are suffering from tennis elbow.
Benefits of using a Tennis Elbow Strap
A tennis elbow strap works on to reduce the pain as well as reduce the tension placed on the muscles of the forearm when using the arm and wrist. When a tennis elbow sufferer wears a tennis elbow strap, the injured area receives much needed support.
Research has shown that by using a tennis elbow strap, a tennis player suffering from tennis elbow encounters less pain and retains strength through wearing a tennis elbow strap than by not using one. Tennis players who wear a tennis elbow strap following a bout of tennis elbow will notice significantly more strength while attempting to grip their racquet.
Choosing a Tennis Elbow Strap
The most effective tennis elbow straps are wide (between 5 to 8 cm) so avoid purchasing a thin or skinny strap for best results. Position the strap approximately one inch below the elbow on the forearm. A strap can be worn on its own or a sleeve can be purchased which contains the strap, but both are equally effective in providing support to the muscles of the elbow while executing the repetitive motions that cause tennis elbow.
