Aircast Elbow Brace
Aircast tennis elbow braces are an effective way of treating tennis elbow. Tennis elbow is a very painful condition that occurs due to repetitive stress or overuse of the muscles and tendons in the arm. This problem is referred to as tennis elbow because it is mostly seen in tennis players who suffer from significant elbow stress injuries, however this condition can occur in any individual and is not limited to tennis players.
The most common symptoms of tennis elbow include decreased forearm strength, inability to grab or hold objects and increased muscle tightness of the forearms. Tennis elbow is diagnosed based on a physical examination rather than by blood tests or x-rays, although other studies that can provide a clear-cut diagnosis include CT and MRI scans. After the diagnosis is made, this condition is treated by simple conservative measures such as an Aircast tennis elbow brace and does not normally require surgery.
An Aircast tennis elbow brace is a special device that provides comfortable padding and has air cells that provide a cushion effect. Tennis elbow can affect medial or lateral parts of the elbow and this device provides excellent support to both whilst encouraging the healing process. The Aircast is placed on the affected tendons in the arm and compresses the tendons responsible for movements in the wrist. The pneumatic device is available in varying sizes and comes with a strap lined with foam. The purpose of this is to offload the tension and weight from the tendons and allow them to relax and heal over time.
Aircast tennis elbow supports have undergone rigorous tests and have proved to relieve tennis elbow symptoms. About 80% of patients showed significant improvement with the use of this device. Therefore, many physicians recommend an Aircast tennis elbow support to patients suffering from tennis elbow.
