An Aircast tennis elbow brace is a special device that provides comfortable padding and has air cells that provide a cushion effect. Tennis elbow can affect medial or lateral parts of the elbow and this device provides excellent support to both whilst encouraging the healing process.

The Aircast is placed on the affected tendons in the arm and this compresses the tendons that are responsible for wrist movements. Aircast braces are available in varying sizes and comes with a strap lined with foam. The purpose of this is to offload the tension and weight from the tendons and allow them to relax and heal over time.

Tennis elbow is sometimes mistaken for elbow bursitis.

Elbow Bursitis is often caused by leaning too much on a joint, it can be caused by falling on the joint or by a direct blow to the tip of the elbow. If you are suffering from bursitis, you can usually see a lump and feel pain at the back of the joint.

Causes of Tennis Elbow

Most healthcare professionals agree that repetitive motion is the major cause of tennis elbow, leading to miniscule tears in the forearm tendon that attaches to the elbow.

Tennis is not the only cause of Tennis Elbow

Because tennis involves repeated use of the elbow, often for long periods of time, tennis is a major cause of elbow injury and hence the term “tennis elbow“. However other sports such as golf that involves repeated use of the elbow can also cause tennis elbow. Jobs  requiring repeated use of the elbow, such as mechanics and joiners can similarly cause tennis elbow.

The majority of the branded tennis elbow braces these days have a spiral lining which helps in removing the extra perspiration. It also helps in avoiding any kind of skin related problems and is also very comfortable to wear on a daily or regular basis.

I would recommend choosing a brace that has a spiral lining for greater comfort. Also because the more comfortable the brace the more you are likely to wear it, and therefore the more effective it will be.

Elbow joint infections are quite rare, but I do see elbow infections from time to time.

Elbow infections can occur spontaneously without any known cause. Alternatively infections can be a direct result of a surgery or secondary infection.

Secondary infections occur when bacteria from a primary infection travels to another system in the body and multiplies.

Post-operative braces available to support the elbow after surgery.

These braces start on the upper arm just above the elbow and extend down arm to the hand.  The braces are adjustable and come in a different range of motion settings.  They can also be set for flexibility.

Due to their complexity using post-operative braces requires seeing a doctor for individual advice.

Arthroscopic surgery, or keyhole surgery can be performed on the elbow to diagnose and treat conditions inside the joint. Arthroscopic surgery requires only a very small incision, hence the name “keyhole” surgery.

An advantage of arthroscopic elbow surgery is that since the incision made in this type of elbow surgery is small, the recovery time is very quick and most patients are able to go back to work in just a few days.

While the elbow is considered the most stable joint in the body, it is not immune to disease and injury.

Some of the more common types of injuries include dislocation, fracture, tendonitis and bursitis. Diseases of the elbow include arthritis and infection.

Elbow injuries and diseases generally affect athletes and extreme hobbyists, such as mountain climbers and body builders, due to the tendency of overuse of the elbow in repetitive motions.

Tendonitis, also known as tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow, is the inflammation of the tendons that surround the elbow joint due to overuse of the joint.

Bursitis is caused by similar circumstances, but affects the bursa that surrounds the joint.
